Back in August 2016, I realised that if you were over 18 and lived in Stafford (and the surrounding area) and you didn’t want to be – or couldn’t – be part of a local Amateur Theatre group, then TOUGH. There was nowhere to just enjoy practically exploring theatre, develop skills or learn a new one, or not to have to worry about a final project. Some people, I realised, would love to be involved in Drama and theatre but can’t commit to two or three nights a week and learn lines because life is busy!
So, I decided to set up a group that would allow adults (18+) who lived in Stafford (and the surrounding area) to take part in Drama and theatre workshops on a much more casual basis. We started with 12 lovely, enthusiastic guinea pigs at the Prince of Wales pub on the Weston Road in Stafford before moving onto the Bird in Hand in Stafford Town Centre. We now meet once a month (usually the first Monday of every month) to explore a different area of Drama and theatre. So far, we have explored: Characterisation, Ensemble and Non-Verbal Communication, and Stanislavski. Upcoming themes for the new year will include Improvisation, Script Work, and Physical Theatre.
Everything we do has a co-operative feel to it, so we encourage members to get involved as much or as little as they like. If someone wants to run a workshop – excellent!; if someone wants to run a warm-up – brilliant!; if someone wants to suggest a play that we should all go and see; superb! If you turn up, do 15 minutes and think, “I’d be more comfortable just watching for a little while,” then that’s cool too.
We look forward to seeing you soon! If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us through “Message” or at firstname.lastname@example.org
